Hadith on Allegiance: The Prophet takes the companion’s pledge not to commit idolatry, theft, murder, or slander

Ubadah ibn As-Samit reported: I gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet, peace be upon him, along with a group of people and he said, “I take your pledge that you will not worship anything but Allah, you will not steal, you will not kill your children, you will not slander others or spread falsehood, and you will not disobey me in good conduct; thus, whoever among you fulfills this pledge, then his reward is with Allah; and whoever commits any of these crimes and he is punished in this world, then that will be an expiation for him and a purification; and whoever has his sins concealed by Allah, then it is for Allah to decide if He will punish him or forgive him.”

Abu Abdullah said, “If a thief repented after having his hand severed, then his witness will be accepted; and anyone who received legal punishment like that and repented will have his witness be accepted.”
