Hadith on Gifts: Encouragement to give gifts to family members even if they worship idols

Ibn Umar reported: Umar saw a silken cloak for sale and he requested that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, should purchase it in order to wear it on Fridays and the days he receives delegations. The
Prophet said, “Verily, this cloak is worn by one who has no share in the Hereafter.” Later, the Messenger of Allah received some silken cloaks similar to those and he sent one to Umar. Umar said to the Prophet, “How can I wear it considering what you said?” The Prophet said, “Indeed, I have not given it to you to wear, but rather to sell it or to give it to someone else.” So Umar sent it to his brother among the people of Mecca before he had embraced Islam.
