Hadith on Unbelievers: Allah does not forbid you from being kind to those who do not fight you

Abdullah ibn Az-Zubair reported: Qutaila from the tribe of Mailk ibn Hasal came to her daughter Asma bint Abu Bakr with gifts of yogurt and margarine, while at the time she was an idolater. She wanted to know if
she should accept her gifts and allow her into her house, so Aisha asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Allah the Exalted revealed the verse, “Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you…” (60:8) until the end of the verse. Thus, the Prophet commanded her to accept the gifts and to allow her to enter the house.

عَامِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَدِمَتْ قُتَيْلَةُ ابْنَةُ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ عَبْدِ أَسْعَدَ مِنْ بَنِي مَالِكِ بْنِ حَسَلٍ عَلَى ابْنَتِهَا أَسْمَاءَ ابْنَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِهَدَايَا ضِبَابٍ وَأَقِطٍ وَسَمْنٍ وَهِيَ مُشْرِكَةٌ فَأَبَتْ أَسْمَاءُ أَنْ تَقْبَلَ هَدِيَّتَهَا وَتُدْخِلَهَا بَيْتَهَا فَسَأَلَتْ عَائِشَةُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَنْهَاكُمْ اللَّهُ عَنْ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَقْبَلَ هَدِيَّتَهَا وَأَنْ تُدْخِلَهَا بَيْتَهَا
