Hadith on War: Permission to tactically deceive the enemy during war time operations


Abdur Rahman ibn Ka’b reported: When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to go on an expedition, he would pretend to go somewhere else and he would say, “War is deception.”



[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Jihad, Number 2637, Sahih]

عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ غَزْوَةً وَرَّى غَيْرَهَا وَكَانَ يَقُولُ الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ
